Initially I only had a CD of the first set and a poor quality tape of the second. There was a story going round at the time that one of the band heard a copy of this first set and said something along the lines of 'this is better quality than some of our releases'. Either they only broadcast the first set to the UK, or I crashed out in the interval but I could claim this as my first show.
Just for information the DJ introducing the band is Kid Jensen, and he it was (now grown up and known as David Jensen) whose Planet Rock show was offering an E72 box set as a prize yesterday.

Bootleg CD's of the first set from the Radio Luxembourg show, some titled "Dead De Luxe" circulated widely during the 1990's.
It's one of my very favorite performances of the tour, largely due to the "electrifying" sound quality that I attribute to the extremely high power of the radio transmission.
But the musicianship is laser tight and focused as well. The intro to The Other One just might be the greatest of all-time...

I'm listening to this now, it's just what Cliff says it is... this is about as tight as it gets, even by '72 standards. Even Pig is sharp as a tack, which by rights he shouldn't be. 'It Hurts Me Too' is excellent, for example... what a unique and great show.

I have a copy of that. That was back when tapes were really hard for me to find, one source was I would check the local used record store every week or so and buy all those "imports." I probably paid like 40 bucks for 5/16's first set. "Black and White Ball" was another one, from 3/15/69. Also have one called "Bear Trap," which was part of 5/23/69 along with the Other One>Spanish Jam segment from 2/14/68.
Anyway, I too recall hearing the Hurts Me Too from 5/16 and it instantly becoming my favorite version. Was also the first time I heard Chinatown Shuffle.

I have long held this as my favorite Europe '72 show both in terms of sound quality and tightness of performance. It's one of the few I can truly go from start to finish with without getting bored, ever.
And I agree, the Other One intro is the more chilling than any other performance I know of.
